Phil Biegler

Phil Biegler (he/him) is a father, husband, executive, and cyclist living just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Phil is a lifelong Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers fan, suffering thru decades of losing teams, but always optimistic.

Married to Christine Yablonski, Phil has 2 children, Kimi and Shaun, both grown unschoolers. Phil was introduced to unschooling by Christine in 2004, and has been supporting and advocating for this lifestyle choice ever since. Juggling an unschooling homelife with a very traditional corporate life, Phil has been able to mix family and work in many ways: by bringing the kids to work and on business trips, doing remote work before it was popular – including from the back of a 35-foot RV traveling down the highway with Christine at the wheel, and joining the family in regularly attending and speaking at unschooling conferences for 10 years. Phil has introduced unschooling to countless colleagues and coworkers (unlikely audiences, indeed) for nearly 20 years.

Phil has traveled extensively, both for work and for pleasure, visiting 35 countries and 46 states, bringing Christine and the kids whenever possible (including a 3-month sabbatical covering 19 countries in Europe in 2014). He’s currently a senior executive for a cybersecurity software company that is
headquartered in NYC but based in India.

In his spare time Phil enjoys road cycling in the Blue Ridge mountains, watching sports, and doing crossword puzzles. He also serves on the boards of his fraternity’s Educational Foundation and The Story School (a non-profit residential camp for kids and teens that combines the power of story and fantasy with STEM education to create unique and challenging adventures for the young hero attendees).
